A+ engineer

Hi!! Here we are in a world changed. I have dedicated my life to learning, building, exploring the world of software engineering. It was my happy place, my place of solice. I love to build, connect people, and make a small dent in the world. But here we are now, in a world full of agents taking that from us. Is that good or bad? I am not sure. If I no longer write the code I spent my life studying, does that make it soulless? Even if the software helps people? Is the end goal to ship or is the end goal to find fullfillment. I dont know how to answer this. I still love to build, always will, but it feels like a piece of my was killed off.

Have we become the machines we spent so much time to control? Schedules around token windows, maximizing token efficiency, employers shoving AI down our throats. I dont know how to answer these questions. I still enjoy what I do, but that doesnt mean it brings me joy. I get joy from helping people, pets and anyone who uses my software, so maybe this debate that rattled in my head is for nothing?

We live in times now where engineers are treated like robots. Forced into an office, forced to sit in traffic, forced to live with the ever dread of layoffs. I am watching this industry crumble from greed. Im watching executives step all over hard working employee's mental health. The desperate need to claw back the positive life strides we made since the pandemic

The pandemic taught me something. It taught me that my career isnt my life. I am not defined by work. Life is what matters. There should be no work life balance. Life is way more important than KPIs and filling an office to get tax breaks from the city.

The only thing real on this site is what I wrote here, everything ran through a model. Does that make it lifeless, does it matter?

~ thx 4 visiting!! ~
